Base Camp Allergy Mask Review

Base Camp Allergy Mask Review

I have had such amazing results with this mask that I feel compelled to share my experience with you in case you, too, are suffering from Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, and especially from chemicals that are hidden in fragrances. If you are not familiar with my story, you can read it here.

The Base Camp Dust Breathing Mask represents my third attempt at using a mask to protect myself from chemicals in fragrances that were causing severe brain fog which was making it very difficult to achieve any level of productivity, either at work or at home.

Sometimes, my symptoms were so severe that I spent more time in bed than anywhere else, too lethargic to even play on my phone.

Although this is by far the most effective solution I have found, I will briefly share other products I have tried for comparison purposes.

Other products:

The personal air-purifying necklace seemed to be effective when my symptoms were minor and I still use it when the air is fairly clear.

The disposable masks were okay but not reusable. Although the mask helped me the first time I used it, for less than an hour, it absorbed the chemicals from an automatic air freshener and made me sick the second time I wore it.

The Respro Allergy Face Mask comes in various sizes and mine was too big which left a gap under my chin. It took quite a bit of trial and error to figure out how to wear it and it was so thick that I felt like I wasn’t getting enough air.

Things I love about the Base Camp mask:

It works! This, to me, is the single most important feature of the mask.

The Base Camp Dust Mask is breathable which means that I can enjoy the scents of nature that I love so much.

The adjustable fit allows it to fit snuggly without being tight.

This allergy mask is lightweight which allows it to be easily tolerable in the heat.

I appreciate having a mask that is reusable and washable which makes it very cost-effective compared to other options.

The mask comes with six extra activated charcoal filters but one filter can easily be used many times. As of this article, I have been using my original one for two weeks of daily use and it is still going strong.

The velcro straps make the BASE CAMP mask easy to put on and the ear loops hold it in place.

Things I do not love about the mask:

Okay, let’s be honest. The mask is pretty freakin’ ugly and maybe even a bit scary although I have worn it around children and adults alike and no one has run away from me yet. Nevertheless, it is worth it! Let’s hope this continues to be a positive experience after Halloween.

This is my own fault, but I wish I had ordered the pack of two so that I could have a back-up when I have to wash my beloved mask.

The mesh fabric can absorb the fragrances from the surrounding environment but this is not a problem because the filter is there for protection. It was only a slight concern at first and considering my clothes absorb the fragrances, it would be a non-issue.

Potential User Error: If not tightened properly, the valves can come loose and end up in your mouth.

The Final Verdict

The economical Base Camp Dust Breathing Mask uses N99 activated carbon filters to isolate 99% of dust, chemicals, fumes, and particulates. It is very effective for protecting someone with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities to chemicals that are found in fragrances.
