Before I tell you what I think about Jordan’s Skinny Syrups, specifically the Sugar-Free Mocha Syrup, I need to tell you a little about myself because that knowledge will help you to decide if this coffee syrup might be right for you.
First of all, I LOVE chocolate and I eat and/or drink some every day. Dark chocolate is my favorite and I usually stick with 85% dark. I also love coffee and drink it every day, usually with some form of chocolate added. Rarely do I drink sweetened coffee but when I do, I like it creamy and chocolaty.
I usually think that coffee shop coffee is too bitter and that’s why most people feel the need to add a bunch of stuff to it before they can drink it. Nevertheless, I enjoy an occasional mocha latte with half the syrup made with whole milk. I also like to indulge in an occasional Mocha Frappuccino or Frappe, depending upon where I go.
Now, for my review.
I purchased Jordan’s Skinny Syrups/Sugar-free Mocha and Jordan’s Skinny Syrups – Cream Whipped Foam Topping. Both have 0 calories and 0 sugar.
On the syrup label, it says:
“Enjoy your favorite coffee drinks without the guilt. Life’s too short to sacrifice all the fun. XOXO Jordan”
Skip the guilt and add to your favorite:
- Dessert Drinks
Chocolate Fudge Mocha
In a serving cup, stir to combine 1 tbsp. Mocha Skinny Syrup, 1 1/2 tbsp. dark chocolate sauce, 1 shot espresso. Steam 6 oz. milk in pitcher. Pour steamed milk into serving cup, stirring gently. For the perfect finish, top with a few pumps of Mocha Skinny Syrups Whipped Foam Topping.
The Whipped Foam Topping – Cream label says this:
How to Use
- Brew your favorite coffee or hot beverage.
- Pump as much as you please into your beverage.
- Enjoy a barista-style beverage without the fuss.
Okay, I admit it. I didn’t follow the recipe.
Instead, I did this
Brewed decaf coffee into a mug, added some Mocha Skinny Syrup and topped with Whipped Foam Topping.
Here’s what I thought
It was yucky.
It was too sweet.
It didn’t taste at all like chocolate.
I took it with me to my computer and began to work on a project and by the time I remembered it was there, it was too cold to drink so I poured it down the sink. (By the way, I drink my favorite coffee cold all the time.)
In comparison, when I sat down to write this post I brought along a cup of decaf coffee with cocoa powder and cream in it. It got cold and I drank it anyway.
So, I tried again.
I do not have an espresso machine but I can make a good cup of coffee that rivals any coffee shop I have ever been to.
Here’s what I did.
Steamed six ounces of milk and added instant coffee, 1 1/2 tbsp. chocolate syrup, 1/2 tbsp. of Jordan’s Skinny Mocha Syrup, and a few pumps of Jordan’s Skinny Whipped Foam Topping.
It was much better!
This time it was creamier and I could taste the chocolate. (Duh.) Even though I only used half of the recommended amount of Jordan’s Skinny Mocha Syrup, it was still too sweet for me. I added an additional six ounces of coffee and it was drinkable but still far too sweet.
It seems silly to me to purchase sugar-free products and then add them to a sugar-laden beverage. Yes, I know. There is sugar-free chocolate sauce/syrup available. You can buy it if you like and you can use skim milk if it makes you happy. I’ll stick with my favorite calorie-free Chocolate Flavored Coffee which is decadent hot or cold without any milk or sweetener added.
If I want something creamy, chocolaty and sweet, I can add chocolate syrup and warm milk to my coffee and top it with real whipped cream. Better yet, I’ll brew my favorite Chocolate Flavored Coffee and add a dollop of premium vanilla ice cream and maybe a drop of peppermint oil.
I have found that if I want a treat, it is better to go with real, wholesome ingredients instead of chemical-laden wannabes. Real food is satisfying and when I thoroughly enjoy something, I don’t feel the need to keep repeating it.
